The Lemon Myrtle, Backhousia citriodora (also known as Sweet Verbena tree, Lemon Ironwood, Lemon-scented myrtle)is a flowering plant in the family Myrtaceae, genus Backhousia. The plant is endemic to subtropical rainforests of central and south-eastern Queensland, Australia. The essential oil, produced by steam distillation of the fresh leaves, is one of the fastest-growing in popularity for Australian origin oils. The Lemon Myrtle essential oil is renowned for its outstanding lemony aromatic properties, providing a strong fresh scent, and is used in aromatherapy as well as for the composition of household cleaning products, body creams and air fresheners.
