The Eucalyptus Blue Gum is one of the best-known Eucalyptus species and is endemic to southeastern Australia. The essential oil of Eucalyptus Globulus is extracted by steam distillation of the leaves, the oil has therapeutic, perfumery, flavouring, antimicrobial and biopesticide properties (similar to most other Eucalyptus oils). The Eucalyptus Blue Gum essential oil has established itself internationally because it is virtually phellandrene free, a necessary characteristic for internal pharmaceutical use. The main constituent of the oil being the Eucalyptol, also known as 1,8-cineol.
